Local maxima of the systole function

چکیده
We construct a sequence of closed hyperbolic surfaces that are local maxima for the systole function in their respective moduli spaces. Their is arbitrarily large and number examples grows rapidly with genus. More precisely, every $n\\geq 3$ there some positive $L_n$ (growing roughly linearly $n$) such genus $g$ equal to super-exponentially along an arithmetic step size $n$. Many these have no orientation-preserving isometries other than identity first this property.

Text Sparsification via Local Maxima
In this paper we investigate some properties and algorithms related to a text sparsification technique based on the identification of local maxima in the given string. As the number of local maxima depends on the order assigned to the alphabet symbols, we first consider the case in which the order can be chosen in an arbitrary way. We show that looking for an order that minimizes the number of ...

متن کاملLocal Maxima of a Random Algebraic Polynomial
We present a useful formula for the expected number of maxima of a normal process ξ(t) that occur below a levelu. In the derivation we assume chiefly that ξ(t), ξ(t), and ξ(t) have, with probability one, continuous 1 dimensional distributions and expected values of zero. The formula referred to above is then used to find the expected number of maxima below the level u for the random algebraic p...
